照镜子看见鼻子上有一墨点,很讨厌,擦镜子一定没有用。外面的如
同镜子,境界是缘,引起了心中的好恶是非。如回光返照,观察自心,即能觉
悟。修道人知道是非好恶是内心起了分别,外面并没有是非好恶。石头与宝石并
无两样。现在科学发达,此种理论更可证实。万法平等,万法一如,无高下之
分。《金刚经》上说,世界是一合相。‘一’是科学家说的基本物质,或称为原
子电子,佛家称之为微尘。所有一切物质均为它的组合,一合相是平等的,一切
现象是缘聚缘散,缘聚则生,缘散则灭。一切万象不生不灭,此种学说逐渐将为
现代科学所证明。我们起了错觉,才有善恶是非。众生与佛亦无差别。石头是一
合相,宝石也是一合相,只是化学的方程式排列不同而已。

修行人大忌说人长短是非,乃至一切世事非干己者,口不可说,心不
可思。但口说心思,便是昧了自己。若专炼心,常搜己过,那得工夫管他家屋里
事?粉骨碎身,唯心莫动。收拾自心如一尊木雕圣像坐在堂中,终日无人亦如
此。旛盖簇拥香花供养亦如此。赞叹亦如此。毁谤亦如此。修行人常常心上无
事,时时刻刻体究自己本命元辰端的处。

修行人对于自己不相干的事不要去听,也不要打听,不必想知道。
古人说:‘知事少时烦恼少,识人多时是非多。’凡是对于清净心有妨碍者,都
要远离。反之,心就迷了。在日常生活中常发现自己的过失,就是开悟。悟了才
能改过自新。自己有过失而自己不知道,有人说我的过失,若是修行人马上向此
人恭敬顶礼。迷惑的人听了,马上就发脾气。身是假的,心是真的。身比作佛
堂,心比作佛像,心不可动。一个人独处也是如此,在热闹场面心仍不动,赞叹
毁谤亦不放在心里,心永远是定的。修行人心中无事叫真工夫。体究自己本命元
辰端的处,即是参究父母未生前的本来面目,也就是随时提起正念工夫。就净宗
说,就是时时刻刻提起一句佛号,历历分明,不夹杂,不间断。心中无事就不夹
杂,净念相继就不间断。
